Pre/Post-Operative and Business Office Manager

Position Summary

The Pre/Post-Operative and Business Office Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and operational management of the pre-operative, post-anesthesia care, and business office functions within a freestanding ambulatory surgery center. This role ensures safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and high employee engagement.

The ideal candidate is a strong clinical leader with a solid understanding of ASC workflows, demonstrated business acumen, and the ability to effectively partner with physicians, leadership, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Leadership

  • Provide oversight and leadership for Pre-Op, PACU, and Business Office teams.
  • Ensure safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with ASC policies, clinical standards, and best practices.
  • Manage daily staffing, scheduling, and patient flow to ensure efficient operations.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical decision-making, problem resolution, and patient throughput optimization.
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesia providers and surgeons to support efficient surgical schedules.

Business Office Management

  • Oversee front-end revenue cycle functions, including registration, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and patient financial counseling.
  • Partner with billing services or internal teams to support accurate charge capture, coding workflows, and claim submission.
  • Monitor key performance indicators such as denial rates, point-of-service collections, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with payer contracts and regulatory requirements.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Conduct annual evaluations and support professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (AAAHC) and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost containment, and operational efficiency.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Maintain strong working relationships with physicians, leadership, vendors, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to support a positive patient experience.
  • Model professionalism, ethical behavior, and adherence to organizational values.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
  • Active RN license in the state of Minnesota
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in Pre-Op and/or PACU
  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience in an ASC or acute care setting
  • Current BLS, PALS and ACLS certification
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs

Preferred

  • Experience managing or supporting ASC business office or revenue cycle functions
  • Knowledge of ASC regulations, accreditation standards, and payer requirements
  • Proven experience in staff development, scheduling, and operational improvement
